Micronized Silica Powder
MIZUKASIL™
MIZUKASIL is powder of hydrated amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO2・nH2O) produced by the wet synthesis method and is also known as "silica," "silica gel," or “white carbon.” We offer MIZUKASIL with various physical properties by controlling specific surface area, pore volume, and particle size.
Our Technologies
- Properties control
We are able to control specific surface area, pore volume, and particle size by utilizing two major synthesis methods in the wet process: precipitation and gelation methods. This allows us to offer products with a wide range of physical properties. Depending on synthesis conditions, there is a fourfold or greater adjustment range in density between product grades.
- Various lineup
We have a lineup of optimal grades such as specially synthesized and surface-treated products to match customers’ requirements.
Products (Typical Grades)
-
Precipitated Silica
MIZUKASIL P-526
The image above illustrates precipitated silica, which is structured via the agglomeration of large primary particles. The material’s high bulkiness is due to its low specific surface area and loose agglomerated structure. We offer a range of grades with various particle size distributions and apparent specific gravities to suit your requirements.

Silica gel
MIZUKASIL P-73
This image illustrates the three-dimensional structure of silica gel, composed of a dense network of small primary particles. Due to its dense structure and shard-like shape, it has higher dispersibility than precipitated silica. The specific surface area, pore volume, and particle size can be flexibly adjusted, and various grades are available.

Application Example
Matting agents for paints and inks

With MIZUKASIL
Without MIZUKASIL
-
-
MIZUKASIL is used as matting agent in paints for furniture, building materials, and vehicle parts.
Silica particles form unevenness on the painted surface, which reduces gloss and creates a unique texture and a luxurious appearance. Additionally, by selecting suitable silica for the purpose, it is possible to add functions other than matte finish, such as tactile feel and scratch resistance. Furthermore, surface-treated products have high miscibility with resins, which improves their dispersibility in paints, sedimentation stability, coating smoothness, and durability.
Antiblocking agent for plastic film
-
-
Films containing MIZUKASIL form uneven surfaces and reduce contact area, preventing the films from sticking together. The bulkiness of MIZUKASIL helps to obtain an antiblocking effect even at low dosage.
We also develop special synthetic grades with regular-shaped particles that provide excellent dispersibility.
Material Characteristics
-
-
- Basic structure
Silica has a continuous -Si-O-Si- structure based on the regular tetrahedron of SiO4. Amorphous silica, including MIZUKASIL, lacks the regularity observed in quartz and has a random structure. Therefore, it is not classified as crystalline silica. Furthermore, the random structure results in the formation of silanol groups (Si–OH) at the termini, which contributes to the hydrophilic adsorption properties of silica.
- Random structure to secondary particles
MIZUKASIL has a high specific surface area and pore volume, which is the result of the random agglomeration of small primary particles (on the order of nanometers). The specific surface area and pore volume are directly related to the bulkiness of the powder and its adsorption properties.
